Happy hardcore music developed from breakbeat hardcore in the early 1990s. It is characterised by its uplifting and happy sound from the use major scale chord progressions and melodys. It is also known for its very fast tempo, four to the floor kick drum patterns, piano riffs and vocal hooks which were often pitched up to a cartoon like fashion.
